CONFIRMATION

Sacrament of Confirmation

Confirmation is one of the seven sacraments in the Catholic Church and is classified as one of the three Sacraments of Initiation, alongside Baptism and the Eucharist. It is seen as the sacrament that completes and strengthens the grace received at Baptism, marking a deepening of the Christian’s commitment and relationship with God and calling the Christian to active witness and service in the Church and the world.

Confirmation preparation guidelines vary according to age.

Ordinary Confirmation

In the Diocese of Richmond, an adolescent who has received the Sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist to prepare for Confirmation, must be currently enrolled in at least the tenth grade and be at least 15 years of age. Reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation will occur in the spring of the year in which the candidate has completed preparation.

Confirmation classes take place throughout the school year and are separate from regular formation classes for youth, also known as youth group. Candidates are expected to be enrolled and attend classes in both programs unless they attend a Catholic school or receive Catholic faith instruction. For more information, please contact Roberto Pagtalunan at 757-484-7335 extension 111 or youthminister@clusterparishes.com.
